Reasons to choose propane over other energy options
With prices on home energy and just about everything else fluctuating wildly over the last year, many homeowners in Berkeley, Morgan, Jefferson and Washington counties have come to us asking if and when they should convert to propane.
At Roach Energy, we handle more propane conversions than just about anyone else in the region. We can help you decide if it’s the right fuel for you and when to make the switch.
The best time to convert to propane is when your heating equipment is switched off. Spring, summer and early fall are ideal. That way, you don’t need to turn off your home’s heating during the coldest weeks of the year while we make the change to propane.
If you’re still on the fence about whether propane is the right home energy for you, consider these five circumstances where it far surpasses other options.
You can’t or don’t want to access a natural gas utility.
Many of our propane customers live in areas without ready access to a natural gas hookup. Others are switching from electric systems and appliances and don’t want to incur the high costs of connecting to a natural gas utility.
Still, others appreciate the advantages propane has over natural gas. You get more heat with propane (2,516 Btu per cubic foot of propane versus only 1,030 Btu with natural gas). Propane is methane-free, unlike natural gas. And propane is an energy source you control with a propane tank on your property. Your comfort isn’t dependent on the tired infrastructure of a gas utility.
You want one fuel source for many systems and appliances.
Propane is an incredibly adaptable fuel. It can power a range of super-efficient, lifestyle-improving systems, appliances and amenities. These include:
hot water systems
ranges and ovens
pool and spa heaters
You need an affordable, dependable energy source.
According to the Department of Energy, home heating comprises roughly 29 percent of the average home’s energy billing. While all energy prices have fluctuated quite a bit in the last year, propane’s price has been less volatile. It is a natural co-product of oil refining and natural gas extraction, and almost all the propane in the U.S. is domestically made. It’s plentiful and less tied to global energy markets than other fuels.
You want freedom from the power grid.
We appreciate how important independence is for our customers. Because of propane’s domestic production, versatility and dedicated storage, it allows many homes to run entirely independently. Between the various products that use propane and the security that a propane-powered standby generator offers, you won’t be reliant on a power grid that’s less reliable every day.
Roach Energy is the Eastern Panhandle’s propane conversion leader.
As you can see, propane offers homeowners many benefits that electricity, natural gas and other energy sources can’t. And spring is an excellent time to convert your home to propane!
The Roach Energy team has home propane conversions down pat. We can get your home switched, appliances installed, and a tank filled in short order so that you can enjoy everything this fantastic fuel offers.
